Retired Hook & Ladder 44
1989 Seagrave Tractor Drawn Aerial
Location: Firehouse 1
This truck originally entered the fire service for the City of Richmond, Virginia. In 1999 the Town of Bedford, Virginia purchased the truck and used it as the town’s first Ladder Company. After purchasing a new Seagrave TDA the Bedford Fire Department placed the 1989 up for sale. In 2008 the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue Department was searching for a used Ladder truck to serve as a second Ladder in hopes of bettering our ISO rating. The truck had approximately 43,000 miles on it and Cornelius bought the truck for $20,000 dollars. Additional money was spent to upgrade and equip the truck to make it usable as a front line Ladder Company. This is the second Ladder ever purchased by Cornelius and has proven to be a vital part of the fleet. The true versatility of the Tractor Drawn Aerial has given us the ability to maneuver through the tight and narrow streets in the new and old neighborhoods throughout Cornelius, allowing for proper aerial placement.
